Pep Guardiola's mother dies after contracting coronavirus






Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola's mother has died after contracting coronavirus, the club have announced.

The club posted a tweet which read: "The Manchester City family are devastated to report the death today of Pep's mother Dolors Sala Carrió in Manresa, Barcelona after contracting coronavirus. She was 82 years old.

"Everyone associated with the club sends their most heartfelt sympathy at this most distressing time to Pep, his family and all their friends."

Guardiola, 49, last month donated €1m (£918,000 at the time) to aid the fight against coronavirus in Spain.

He also issued a video as part of the club's Cityzens At Home initiative urging fans to stay at home and to follow the advice of scientists, doctors and nurses.

City's rivals Manchester United also sent their condolences on Twitter, writing: "Everyone at Manchester United is saddened to hear this terrible news. We send our heartfelt condolences to Pep and his family. #ACityUnited."

Liverpool FC posted on their official Twitter account: "Deepest condolences from everybody at Liverpool FC. Our thoughts are with Pep and his family at this time.

Everton also wrote on Twitter: "Everyone at Everton sends their deepest condolences to Pep and his family at this terribly sad time."

Police arrests former Jigawa governor

The police in Kano on Sunday arrested the immediate past governor of Jigawa, Alhaji Sule Lamido. A reliable source told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano that Lamido was arrested for allegedly inciting his supporters to stop theconductofstate’supcominglocalcouncilpolls. NAN reports that the arrest of Lamido may be connected with a programme aired on one of the Kano local radio stations. Lamido was alleged to have directed his supporters, during the programme, to ensure thatthey win the local governments elections by all means.
