Recession: We must think out of the box, says Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the current recession requires "out-of-the-box" thinking to deploy strategies that involve engaging meaningfully with the private sector to raise the level of private sector investment in the economy as a whole. The president said this at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday at the ministerial retreat on the economy and the budget, with the theme “Building Inter-ministerial Synergy for Effective Planning and Budgeting in Nigeria”. He expressed the confidence that the level of private investment would grow as his administration was determined to make it easier to do business in Nigeria by the reforms being introduced under the auspices of the Presidential Committee on Ease of Doing Business. Forget Biafra, Buhari tells agitators

President Muhammadu Buhari has advised those clamouring for a Biafra Republic to forget about it. He spoke yesterday while receiving over 100 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in his Daura Local Government Area at his residence in Daura, Katsina State. The president said all Nigerians must come  together to build the country. Speaking specifically to corps members from the South-eastern states, Buhari said: “Tell your colleagues who want Biafra to forget about it. As a military commander, I walked from Degem, a border town between the North and the East, to the border between Cameroon and Nigeria. “I walked for most of the 30 months that we fought the Nigeria-Biafra civil war, in which at least two million Nigerians were killed. We were made by our leaders to go and fight Biafra not because of money or oil, because oil was not a critical factor then, but because of one Nigeria. Illegal arms deal: Dasuki's trial adjourned to oct 19

The trial of former National Security Adviser (NSA), retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki over alleged possession of illegal arms and money laundering has been fixed for October 19. Dasuki walked into the Federal High Court, Abuja premises about 10.45 am accompanied by his lawyer, Ahmed Raji (SAN) while three security operatives followed at a distance. He and his lawyer wore kaftan with cap to match. They headed straight to the court room where his trial was due to continue. But the court was not in session as the presiding judge, Justice Adeniyi Ademola was yet to resume from the annual vacation. Dasuki was arraigned on a five count charge of illegal possession of firearms and money laundering in August, 2015 following days of security blockade of his Abuja residence by the Department of State Services (DSS).
