Jammeh writes statement, accepts to leave Gambia

The embattled former president of The Gambia, Yahya Jammeh, has accepted to leave the country, according to source. He made the commitment during his meeting with the presidents of Liberia and Guinea in a last chance to respect the constitution. The announcement came hours after military forces of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) crossed from Senegal into Gambia in an attempt to search for Jammeh. On Thursday, President Adama Barrow was sworn into office in the Gambian High Commission in  Dakar, Senegal. Barrrow fled to Dakar on Saturday for security reasons. Jammeh lost the December, 2016 Gambia presidential election to Barrow. Former Iranian president Rafsanjani dies at 82.....

Former Iranian president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani died in hospital in Tehran where he was taken after suffering a heart attack on Sunday, state media reported. State run Press TV said Rafsanjani, 82, died from a heart attack despite efforts by doctors to save him. Rafsanjani was an influential figure in Iran, and headed the Expediency Council, a body which is intended to resolve disputes between the parliament and the Guardian Council. Tasnim news agency also quoted his relative and aide Hossein Marashi as saying that Hasehmi had died at the hospital in Tehran.

N5000 monthly Stipend

The Presidency says the Community-Based Targeting (CBT) model of the World Bank was used two years ago to identify most of the beneficiaries of the federal government's N5,000 monthly stipend for the poorest. The Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, in a statement on Sunday, said the World Bank was an active agent in the entire selection process. Akande noted that the data collected belongs to Nigeria, saying the selection could not be described as partisan since beneficiaries from eight of the nine pilot states were picked even before the present administration. He said in eight of the nine pilot states, the process had taken place at least two years ago through the World Bank-supported programme under an agreement entered into with the state governments.
