Drama as 8 lawmakers set to impeach Benue Governor Samuel Ortom

Another drama played out Monday morning in Benue State as eight members of the House of Assembly threatened to issue notice of impeachment on Governor Samuel Ortom within the next seven days. Daily Trust reports that the ousted Speaker, Terkimibi Ikyange- led faction made the threat at a news conference in Makurdi. It was gathered earlier that some youths at about 5:00am today occupied the Assembly complex over an alleged plot by some members to impeach the governor. The police was however, said to have dispersed them (youths) with tear gas canisters.

I'm not bothered about defections in APC, Says Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday night said that he was not bothered about the defections in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Buhari, who was responding to a question during an interactive session with the Nigerian community in Togo at the Nigerian Embassy, Lome, said most Nigerians appreciated the performance of his administration. In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and publicity, Garba Shehu, the President said “I am not bothered about the defections. Ordinary Nigerians have developed confidence in us and are defending us. Defection: Kwankwaso must abide by the rules - Shekarau

A former Governor of Kano State, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, has described the defection of Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso from APC to PDP as a welcome development but urged him to abide by the rules. Daily Trust reports that Shekarau, a founding member of the APC had to leave the party for Kwankwaso in Kano when serving governors who dumped the PDP for the APC were asked to lead the party in their states. Speaking through his media aide, Sule Ya’u Sule, Shekarau who is the PDP leader in Kano said he hoped Kwankwaso had changed. A chieftain of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, Borishade Adeniyi, has been killed.

He was allegedly shot dead at the venue of a PDP LG chairmen visitation meeting held on Saturday, July 21, 2018,  at Igbosuku village, Eti-Osa LGA. The meeting was attended by Lagos State and PDP Local Government Chairmen. Until his death, the deceased who was the Apapa LG PDP Chapter Chairman, was aptly referred to as the Doyen of PDP LG Chapter Chairmen in Lagos State,

2018Hajj: first batch of Nigerian pilgrims depart to Saudi Arabia

The first batch of Nigerian pilgrims have left for Saudi Arabia as theinaugural airliftfor 2018pilgrimagebeganon Saturday. The pilgrims from Kogi State, departed the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja by 11 am, and will fly straight to Prince Muhammad bin Sultan International Airport, Madinah. 7 withdrawal from governorship primary in Osun

Seven out of 11 governorship aspirants of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Sept. 22 election on Saturday announced their withdrawal from the party’s primary. The primary to be held in Osogbo has more than 3,000 delegates to participate in the exercise. Those who announced their withdrawal from the primary are Mr Adejare Bello, former speaker of the State House of Assembly, Prof. Adeolu Durotoye, Jide Adeniji, Sen. Olasunkanmi Akinlabi, Mr Ayoade Adewopo, Mr Lere Oyewumi and Mr Felix Ogunwale. The aspirants said that they stepped down from the race due to appeal from the party’s leadership and also to ensure cohesion within the party. Other aspirants still in the race are Sen. President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday said he declared his intention to contest the 2019 Presidential Election early in order to douse rising speculations in the country. Buhari also said the decision would the All Progressives Congress (APC) enough time to prepare for the polls. The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State, Alhaji Isa Sadiq Achida, has said that there is no reason to give a “red card” to Governor Aminu Tambuwal because he has done nothing to warrant sack. Achida spoke in the wake of a claim by Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State who said the APC had sent him out of the pitch by giving him the red card, saying he was looking for another platform. There are speculations that beside Ortom, some other APC governors, including Tambuwal, are planning to leave the APC. Abuja Residents in Fear After Killing of 7 Policemen

The killing of seven police officers at Galadimawa Roundabout - a settlement in Abuja, has led to an apprehension among the residents. Residents say, out of fear of indiscriminate police arrest and their safety, they no longer stay out  late while business owners within the area close earlier. Though police officers have been deployed to the outpost where the officers were killed, residents fear that the last may not have been heard about the killings. The police officers usually stayed at a porter cabin stationed at the roundabout adjoining Galadimawa Motor Park and few metres from the African University of Science and Technology (AUST). “They have not arrested anybody I know of, but I am sure they will start arresting people tonight,” an official of the tricycle riders association at the Motor Park, who would not want to be named told our reporter. “I had to close my shop by 6pm yesterday because you cannot always say what the police can do,” a shop owner in the area said on Wednesda...

School feeding: Kaduna teachers eating food meant for pupils

The School Feeding Field Monitors of a Non-Governmental Organisation, Connecting Gender for Development (COGEN), on Wednesday alleged that teachers are taking the rations meant for pupils in some schools in Kaduna State. Ms Rachael Musa, one of the monitors said during a Town Hall Meeting on the Federal Government’s Home grown School Feeding Programme in Kafanchan, Jema’a Local Government, said the ration do not usually go around. Musa also said although every child was supposed to be given an egg once week, the eggs do not usually go round because of short supply. Similarly, Mr Monday John, another monitor alleged that some politicians were collecting money from food vendors on the ground that they were not members of the ruling All Progressive Congress. John also said that some members of the Peoples Democratic Party have equally stopped their children from eating the food, saying it could be poisoned. PDP loses 400 members to APC in Ekiti

About 400 members on the platform of Prince Adedayo Adeyeye Movement (PAAM), from Irepodun/Ifelodun local government of Ekiti state have defected from the PDP to the APC. The defectors are from Eyio, Esure and Iropora area of the council and carried out the joint defection Eyio-Ekiti. Mr. Ayodele Matthew led Esure-Ekiti members while Adeyeye Ajibola led new defectors from Iropora. The immediate past Special Adviser on Political Matters and Governor Ayodele Fayose's political associate, Ademola Bello, urged new members to feel save in APC, saying that the party accommodates new members without any discrimination.
