The suspended acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFFC) Ibrahim Magu, has denied that he fraudulently enriched himself by diverting and mismanaging proceeds of recovered assets. In his response to a presidential probe panel investigating allegations of gross misconduct against him by the Attorney general of the Federation (AGF) Abubakar Malami, Mr Magu described the allegations against him as false and calculated to tarnish his image despite the “commendable” achievements of the EFCC under his leadership. In the detailed response, obtained by PREMIUM TIMES, Mr Magu instead accused the office of the AGF of interfering with investigations, recovery and management of recovered assets. He also claimed that the office of the AGF has been “less cooperative and supportive” of the process of assets recovery. FG fixes NECO examinations for October 5 and National Common Entrance Examination for October 17

The Federal Government has said the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) organized by the National Examination Council (NECO) for SS3 students will commence on October 5 and end on November 18, 2020. The Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajuiba, announced the dates for the examination at the end of a two-day meeting with Chief Executives of examination bodies in the country. In a statement released today Wednesday, July 29 by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, Ben Goong, the ministry said the National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) into Unity Colleges will hold on October 17, 2020. The ministry also said the Basic Education Certificate Examinations, (BECE) for JSS 3 pupils also conducted by NECO, will start on August 24 and end on September 7, 2020. No mask, no entry into train stations, NRC tells travelers

  The Nigeria Railway Corporation, NRC, has declared its facilities and environs a no-mask no-entry zone in preparation for resumption of operations on July 29. Dangote Cement generates N162.9bn profits in 6 months

Africa’s largest cement producer, Dangote Cement plc., has announced a Profit Before Tax, PBT, of N162.90 billion for the six months ended June 30, 2020 even as two block makers have emerged winners in its ongoing Spell and Win a million national consumer promo. According to the unaudited results of the company released on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, NSE, the declared profit was 4.7 per cent higher than N155.49 billion in the corresponding period of 2019. The results indicate a resilient half-year 2020 performance despite the impact of COVID-19. The Group revenue went up to ₦476.9 billion, Group Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) was ₦218.1 billion representing a 45.7 per cent margin while Pan-Africa EBITDA was up by 31.6 per cent to ₦31.5 billion; a margin of 21.7 per cent. Eid -el-Kabir: Nigerian govt declares Thursday, Friday as public holidays     The Federal Government has declared Thursday 30 and Friday 31 July, as public holidays to mark 2020 year’s Eid-el-Kabir. The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, through a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, ministry of Interior, Georgina Ehuriah, on Tuesday in Abuja. Mr Aregbesola congratulated Muslim faithful and all Nigerians both at home and abroad on the occasion. Nigeria approves resumption of domestic operations in 14 airports [See List]   The Federal Government has approved the full resumption of 14 airports in the country for domestic operations from July 8 to July 24. The Minister of Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika, made the announcement in his official Twitter handle, @hadisirika, on Sunday. Mr Sirika pointed out that the inspection on the airports had been completed “Glad to announce that the following airports are open for full domestic operations, hence ministerial approvals in and out of them is not required. “These include private and charter operations. We will keep you informed on the other airports in due course, please,” he said. When I got out of bed in the wee hours of Saturday, May 30, 2020 and stumbled into the restroom, the thought on my mind was to get in there, do what I had to do, get back to bed and slumber off before getting up again for the early morning prayer some one and a half hours later. Little did I know that a blink from my phone signifying a post, sms or WhatsApp alert would put an end to that plan. On my return from the restroom, I discovered that the blink was a Facebook post conveying the news of the demise of Dr. Maikanti Baru, immediate past Group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).  I picked up my phone, read the post and almost immediately dropped it on my bed as though it was laced with the coronavirus or it was a source of some toxins capable of inducing physical aches and pains.
