The Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Agency (KASUPDA) on Friday demolished houses built behind Zenith Bank along Yakubu Gowon Way in the state metropolis.
Officials of the agency who supervised the demolition exercise declined information when asked the rationale behind the demolition.
The aggrieved property owners have however threatened to take legal action against the agency; describing the demolition of their properties as illegal.
Narrating his ordeal, Similarly, Chief Eze Aba explained, "We woke up this morning to see two bulldozers and KASUPDA hilux vehicle on our site, without telling us what they came for, they started demolition our properties. Although, we applied for building structure approval from KASUPDA since last year and we made all the necessary payment but up till now they have refused to issue the approval," he said.
Another property owner, Abubakar Muhammed described as inhuman the decision of the state government to demolish their properties saying, "I pay my ground rent yearly and i have Certificate of Occupancy, yet my property was demolished," he lamented.
Musa Rilwan on his own part said his father has been the owner of the land for over 20years; saying there was no promise of compensation from government before the demolition.
However, DailyTrust Saturday gathered that the site has been a located to private investors who are planning to build hotels.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday interrogated former Governor of Akwa Ibom State Godswill Akpabio over allegation of financial crimes.
