Director General, National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Johnson Olawumi has said 200 million naira has been earmarked by Heritage Bank as soft loan for entrepreneurial corps members.
Speaking to press men recently in Abuja, he said the bank was committed to assist corps members develop their entrepreneurial skills or project without having funds as their challenge.
Olawumi also informed that the NYSC foundation has set aside 10 million naira for corps members to access for their project hence they can get between the sum of 250,000 naira and 400,000 naira.
According to him, the scheme has approached the Central Bank of Nigeria to assist the corps members with soft loans to help them develop the skills they acquire while they were serving.
He said the collateral for the corps members to access the loan was their discharge certificate.
Olawumi also informed that the scheme was underway to set up a training section in the Kubwa camp to train corps members on property development.
Meanwhile,Heritage Bank has launched the Financial Literacy Programme for schools in February 2014, where it unveiled its brand ambassador, Zuriel Oduwole organised this year’s event as part of Awesome Treasure Foundation’s Summer Camp.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday interrogated former Governor of Akwa Ibom State Godswill Akpabio over allegation of financial crimes. Daily Trust gathered that Akpabio honoured the invitation by the anti-graft agency to explain allegations of looting of the state’s funds during his tenure. Sources told our correspondent that Senator Akpabio was being interrogated late yesterday evening at the Abuja head offices of the Commission. He was spotted at the EFFC office in company of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Rickey Tarfa, at about 5:20pm. Akpabio’s arrest yesterday is fallout of the petition by an Abuja-based lawyer and activist, Leo Ekpenyong, who had on June 8 this year petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari and the EFCC, calling for Senator Akpabio’s probe and accusing him of looting.
