Memphis Depay's first training session
New Manchester United signing Memphis Depay clearly enjoyed his first session with the full squad at the Aon Training Complex on Monday, as the Reds kickstarted preparations for the new season. Most of United's squad returned last week for medical tests to assess their fitness before the tough pre-season work began this week as Louis van Gaal aims to get his squad in top shape for 2015/16. The players are all glad to be back too, with Rooney tweeting: "Felt good to be back training with the lads today." While Memphis is already settling in with his new team-mates. He tweeted: "Can't wait to go on tour." The young Dutch star won't have to wait long – there's less than a week until United leave for the US on Monday 13 July, where the Reds face Club America, San Jose Earthquakes, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday interrogated former Governor of Akwa Ibom State Godswill Akpabio over allegation of financial crimes. Daily Trust gathered that Akpabio honoured the invitation by the anti-graft agency to explain allegations of looting of the state’s funds during his tenure. Sources told our correspondent that Senator Akpabio was being interrogated late yesterday evening at the Abuja head offices of the Commission. He was spotted at the EFFC office in company of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Rickey Tarfa, at about 5:20pm. Akpabio’s arrest yesterday is fallout of the petition by an Abuja-based lawyer and activist, Leo Ekpenyong, who had on June 8 this year petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari and the EFCC, calling for Senator Akpabio’s probe and accusing him of looting.
