The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina stated this in his twitter account yesterday.
President Buhari is rounding-off his four-day official visit to the US on the invitation of President Barrack Obama.
Adesina said Buhari was point blank in telling the US authority on Tuesday that not only is gay marriage against the law of Nigeria, but is also abhorrent to the culture of the country.
“The issue of gay marriage came up here yesterday (Tuesday). President Buhari was point blank. Sodomy is against the law in Nigeria and abhorrent to our culture,” the presidential spokesman tweeted yesterday.
Before Buhari left for the US on Sunday, many Nigerians including civil society groups had asked him to reject any attempt by his US counterpart to force gay marriage on Nigeria.
The Nigerian Senate had in 2013 criminalised same-sex marriage, describing it as alien to the country’s culture and values.
