Breaking: Explosion rock Ecwa church in Jo plateau state

An explosion on Sunday morning hit the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) Bishara one, in Tudun Wada, Jos north local government area of Plateau State. Report reaching us indicated that no casualty was recorded in the explosion. A resident of Tudun Wada, Losam Yohannah said two bombs had been planted in the church but one went off outside the church premises while the other one concealed inside the church was defused by the police anti-bomb squad. Special Task Force (STF) Media and Information Officer Captain Ikedichi Iweha said one member of the church had noticed a concealed device and alerted security agents. Captain Iweha said "one of the worshipers had detected a concealed device in one of the toilets and the church alerted security operatives who went in there and defused the bomb. Another bomb was noticed outside the church premises while security men were sweeping the area and it was detonated but no one was harmed." He said the scene had been cordoned off and security had been beefed up around the city, he urged residents to remain alert. Our correspondent reports that normalcy had returned as service continued in the Church after the bombs were defused by security agencies.

Police arrests former Jigawa governor

The police in Kano on Sunday arrested the immediate past governor of Jigawa, Alhaji Sule Lamido. A reliable source told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano that Lamido was arrested for allegedly inciting his supporters to stop theconductofstate’supcominglocalcouncilpolls. NAN reports that the arrest of Lamido may be connected with a programme aired on one of the Kano local radio stations. Lamido was alleged to have directed his supporters, during the programme, to ensure thatthey win the local governments elections by all means. The former governor was said to have been arrested at his Sharada Kano residence in the early hours of Sunday by the Zonal Investigative Bureau unit of Zone One Command of the Nigeria Police in Kano.
