Presenting the items to beneficiaries, Executive Secretary of State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Alhaji Idi Jidawa said the money was aimed at ameliorating the hardship faced by traders and to enable them resuscitate their businesses.
“Though the state government cannot replace all your goods, it is important that we support you with this token,” Jidawa said.
He added that it is the wish of the state governor to fully compensate the affected traders, but for the meagre resources available to the state. He assured that the money was given to the authentic victims. He called on the traders to accept what happened to them as the will of God, while praying that they use the money judiciously.
Responding, Chairman, Yobe State Traders Association, Alhaji Usman Mu’azu, commended the state government for the gesture and requested that same be extended to their members who suffered similar losses in other local governments including Potiskum, Gaidam, Tarmowa, Buni Yadi and Gulani.
Chairman of Damaturu Local Government, Mohammed Kali, warned the beneficiaries against using the money to marry new wives.
